Chapter History

Make-A-Wish® Guam got its start under the Make-A-Wish Hawaii-Guam Division with a child named John.

After just entering remission in a two year battle against acute lymphocystic leukemia, 9-year-old John-John told his mother, Annie Reyes and his cousin, Vanessa Bamba, about his dream. “One day, I will go to Disneyland® and meet Goofy. One day, I will see and feel the cold snow. Guam is so hot!”

On Christmas day 1987, John-John and his family departed for an exciting two week visit to California’s Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and Big Bear mountain to see the snow.

On November 13, 1988 John-John was called to his eternal rest. The fulfillment of his wish remains the inspiration to Make-A-Wish Guam today and was the only wish granted under the Hawaii-Guam partnership.
