For 16-year-old Guam resident Jolynn Aquino, it doesn’t get any better than watching the television show Extreme Makeover-Home Edition (EMHE). The stories are heartwarming, the homes that are built are beyond beautiful and the lives that are affected are changed forever. One can’t help but shed a tear when watching a family receive the greatest gift they could ever imagine; a new home.
When Jolynn was interviewed by the Make-A-Wish® Guam staff and volunteers, she wished for a chance to meet the cast of EMHE. Jolynn’s chance came in October 2011, when she and another wish kid from Minnesota were selected to visit the cast on the set in Joplin, Missouri. At the time, Joplin had been hit by a severe tornado that caused millions of dollars in damage and loss of lives. EMHE was in town to rebuild 7 houses in 7 days as a grand finale to the show which was scheduled to end in early 2012.
Jolynn traveled for over 24 hours to Missouri for a week of everything EMHE. She got to meet the cast, visit the construction sites and was there for the reveal of the seven homes.
In the end, the lives of 7 families from Joplin were forever changed. The life of one 16 year old from Agana Heights Guam was also changed forever. It was our pleasure to have a part in granting this wonderful wish.
